Coach
Tony started his swimming career in the bay area’s UCSF year-round swim team in 1974 and loved the sport instantly. He then moved to West Texas in 1979 and continued competitive swimming under coach CJ Johnson who was the head age-group coach with Doc Counsilman for 14 years. Coach CJ became the main influence of his coaching philosophy with an emphasis on stroke mechanics and technique. Tony began collegiate competitive waterpolo for the University of Texas in 1988 and started his coaching career for age-group swimming. He transferred to Southern California to complete his degree in Diving Medicine in 1990 and worked offshore until 1994 where he then continued his coaching career with the Northwest Swim Circuit and USA Triathlon out of Austin, Texas. Coach Watt started a new USA swim and masters team in North Austin in 1998 which grew to nearly 200 swimmers (Anderson Mill) within its first year. He moved to Moscow, Idaho in 2004 to open a new surgical center and began coaching with the University of Idaho staff under Olympian Tom Jager and started a Gold Medal Swim Team. He was also the head coach of Sawtooth Masters program from 2006-2008. During the high school season, he continued coaching with Moscow, Clarkston, Pullman and Asotin swim teams in swimming and Diving. He was voted the Washington State coach of the year for 2007 when he led Clarkston to a division championship. He also coached on the Moscow boys state championship teams from 2005-2008. Coach Watt moved to Boise in 2008 to open Southwest Advanced Care Hospital and began coaching with the Boise YMCA under Frank Burleson and YMCA Masters. In 2009, he discovered a young team in Meridian, called the Streamliners and began a new career with the Streamliner Aquatics program when they moved to Eagle.
